Flores Bio is an association formed to restore the integrity of cultural heritage and environmental conservation in the land known as Margaça from decades of neglect while establishing a creative grassroots community garden to produce compounding future economic and societal potential that brings immense benefit to the island of Flores through biodiversity, circular economics, conservation, and natural aesthetics as a unique destination in the world.
Margaça, meaning small white flowers, is the location of Flores Bio that has been cultivated over four generations. This name has been passed down from generation to generation in the local town of Fajazinha. The families from Fajazinha have cultivated the land for hundreds of years growing vegetables and fruits where neighbors used to work together for the benefit of the community.
A community garden in the location of Margaça offers common utility and venue within a beautiful green space where volunteers to Flores can participate and contribute to the beauty that is Flores. The garden is open from May through October and is available to all who visit Flores that want to actively participate in beautification and conservation. Due to environmental conservation efforts of the area we limit the amount of volunteers to ten (10) daily and members of the association will have priority. All volunteers must rsvp in advance with confirmation.
Our target date opening to the public will be the summer of 2024.
